NOTICE TO THE BAR: At the beginning of July, severe staffing shortage and increase in filings at the Office of the Public Defender made it difficult to fulfill its obligations. The Court is reaching about to the Bergen County Bar Association for seeking volunteers to aid Court during this time. Please see the attached notice for more details.


This year’s Diversity in the Profession Award recipient is recently retired, long-time Teaneck Municipal Court Judge, James E. Young, JMC. Judge Young has served as a Municipal Court Judge for more than 30 years. Approximately 200 friends, family, and colleagues joined to celebrate Judge Young’s career and contributions promoting diversity within the legal profession.

Bergen County Bar Association Association Officer Jason E. Foy monerated the event introducing Superior Court Judge and featured speaker Hon. Magali Francois, JSC; as well as Municipal Court Prosecutor Linda H. Schwager, Esq., and Teaneck Municipal Court Judge Erica Jungblut.

The event was held on Thursday evening, April 11th at The Terrace in Paramus, New Jersey.


On March 21st, the Bergen County Bar Association hosted our 120th Annual Meeting & Beefsteak Dinner. At this annual celebration, the Bergen County Bar Association congratulated our outgoing Association President Thomas Loikith (left) for his years of dedication and service as President, and welcomed our incoming President, Andrew J. Cevasco (right) for his coming year of service.


Our Annual Meeting & Beefsteak Dinner held the swearing of the Oath for new President, Officers, and Trustees. The Bergen County Bar Association welcomes Louis L. D’Arminio, Jessica A. Gomperts, Joseph L. Mecca, Jr., and Victoria R. Pekerman as the new trustees and new additions to the Bergen County Bar Association representation. The Bergen County Bar Association welcomes Laura C. Sutnick as the newly elected Officer Secretary for the Bergen County Bar Association, as we look forward to her provided service and ambition.(New BCBA Trustee Victoria R. Bergen County Assignment Judge Bonnie J. Midzol had delivered the Oath of Office to swear-in the new members of the BCBA Board of Officer and Trustees. After delivering the of Oath of Office, Hon. Daniel P. Mecca (ret.) had delivered his Annual Report of the Bench and Bar to the attendance of the Bergen Bar Association.

On Monday, February 25th at the Bergen County Courthouse, the Bergen County Bar Association, the Bergen County Bar Foundation, and The Record sponsored a free Community Legal Education Seminar open to the general public and legal community. Key-note speaker, Scott H. Novak, Esq., BCBA’s Tax Law Committee Co-Chair (Pictured on the Bottom), presented information on the recently enacted federal tax law. Th Association and Foundation plan to sponsor additional Community Legal Education Programs  for both the public and practicing attorneys throughout the year.
